20080821 horses in mexico with kate...
this is another catch-up post…from an afternoon in mexico last month when i went south for my best friend’s home birth.
kate is married to joe. joe is one of annie’s medical school classmates in guadalajara, jalisco, mexico. since my week had mostly been spent around the house and neighborhood with the family, and new born elena, the day before i returned to the states kate picked me up and we drove out into the country, with a stop for some beers, and tequilla, of course.
kate is a horse lover. she has been adopting sick and malnourished horses, and subsequently, dogs, and keeps them at a ranch about 40 minutes outside of guadalajara where she ventures everyday to feed and care for them. she clearly cherishes this time and it was a treat to get to spend a few hours with this new friend in the peaceful mexican countryside….not to mention i got to ride bareback with just a blanket on the horse and a rope around his neck. yowza! no pics, of that! ;-) gracias otra vez, chica!
kate has started a non-profit to help care for these animals and it is amazing how much good she does with so little money south of the border. if you want to help with a donation or learn more, go to http://horsesinmexico.com/
a few pics from our afternoon away from the city….

still couldn’t seem to get away from baby stuff….

oh, and i mustn’t forget good juan daniel ayon contreras, who was more than happy to poor us samples of pina colada and coffee enhanced tequilla on the way to the ranch! soo yummy. too bad customs requires a sealed bottle with a stamp and not some recycled plastic jug filled with juan’s concoctions.
