20090320 hungry faith...
joyce eatman founded Ladies Advocating Christian Entertainment (LACE) 19 years ago. a couple of years later, she decided to make fighting hunger the group’s priority, and LACE became a five-day-a-week food pantry. in february LACE fed 150 families, but in this economy, there’s no guarantee it will last another month. brendan buhler wrote the story.

i was buzzing around town knocking out assignments when i cruised into LACE to make a portrait of eatman on tuesday. after listening to her talk for just a few minutes she paused and we wandered into the food pantry. while talking she kept raising her arms up, gesturing to the sky, her faith clearly omnipotent in her life and in the motivation of the organization. i inquired about this and she confirmed. i asked her to take a moment and tap into that, think about the situation of her non-profit and let that come through. camera lifted. when she opened her eyes they were flush, tears nearly pouring over.
i’ve spent a lot of time thinking about faith and spirituality in my own life of late and to see joyce so moved, on a dime, was powerful. only a few moments had passed but i had the picture to illustrate her story. we hugged and thanked each other and i left.
as times get tougher the things we do to support one another and our communities will become more crucial. for starters, a constant mindful consideration of one another. just a thought….

A “Moment Captured” certainly. Beautiful image & beautifully expressed for all of us to reflect upon.
